Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless chicken (breasts or thighs), cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.25 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 0.5 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter (for cooking chicken)
  • 1 tbsp oil (canola or vegetable)
  • 5 tbsp unsalted butter (for sauce)
  • 0.5 cup honey
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.125 tsp ground black pepper
  • sliced green onions, for garnish (optional)
  • sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • skillet or frying pan
  • tongs or spatula
  • measuring cups and spoons
  • stove or cooktop

Method

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper. Toss the chicken pieces in the flour mixture until fully coated.
  2. Heat butter and oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the coated chicken in a single layer. Cook for 2–3 minutes per side until golden and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Reduce heat to low. Add the remaining butter to the skillet, then stir in honey, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper. Cook, stirring continuously, until the sauce is glossy and slightly thickened.
  4. Return the chicken to the skillet and toss to coat evenly in the sauce. Let it sit for a minute to absorb the flavor.
  5. Serve hot over steamed rice or with vegetables. Garnish with green onions or sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

Use room-temperature butter for a smooth, glossy sauce. Don’t overcrowd the pan for the best crisp texture. Add a splash of broth or water if the sauce thickens too quickly. Chicken thighs are ideal for juiciness, but breasts work too.
